I’m a mixed media artist based in Washington and the creative heart behind Art by Jamie J. My art focuses on turning dogs into bold, colorful cartoon portraits filled with personality and love.
The Moment Everything Changed
At 14, I survived a ruptured brain AVM, which left me with Aphasia and Apraxia — conditions that affect speech and communication. Life changed overnight, and for years, I didn’t think a dream career was possible for someone like me.
How Painting Found Me
In 2009, out of sheer boredom, I picked up a paintbrush. I started posting my work on Facebook, and to my surprise, friends wanted to buy it. That moment cracked open a door I didn’t know existed — one filled with creativity, connection, and joy.

Over a decade later, I’ve found what I was meant to be: a dog cartoon painting artist. Each piece is made with a mix of acrylic paint, spray paint, marker ink, and tissue paper, all sealed with a glossy varnish. Every portrait is one-of-a-kind and crafted to celebrate the unique personality of your pup.

Q: How do I order a custom dog portrait?
A: Just head to the product page, select your options, and upload some good photos of your pup. I’ll take it from there and turn your dog into a colorful cartoon masterpiece!
Q: What kind of photos should I send?
A: Clear, well-lit pictures of your dog’s face (bonus points if their personality shines through!). The more detail I can see, the better the final painting will be.
Q: Can you paint more than one dog on the same canvas?
A: Yes! There’s an option to add a second dog when ordering. If you want more than two dogs, email me and we’ll talk size and pricing.
Q: What materials do you use?
A: I use a mix of acrylic paint, spray paint, marker ink, and tissue paper—all sealed with a glossy varnish for a bold, long-lasting finish.
Q: How long will it take to get my painting?
A: Since each piece is handmade with love and I’m currently offering only one commission slot per month (while working a full-time job), expect your painting to be completed and shipped within 4–5 weeks of placing your order.
Q: Do you ship outside the U.S.?
A: Not yet! Right now, I only ship within the United States. Hopefully international shipping is coming soon!
Q: What size is the painting?
A: My standard size is 24in x 18in x 1.5in – big enough to make your pup the star of any wall.
Q: What if I’m not happy with my painting?
A: My goal is to make you (and your dog) smile. If something’s off, email me and we’ll figure it out. I want you to love your portrait.
Q: How do I care for my painting?
A: Avoid hanging it in direct sunlight, and dust it gently with a dry cloth if needed. The glossy varnish protects the surface, so no framing is required unless you want it!
Q: Is the painting framed?
A: Nope — but it looks like it is! I paint a faux frame right onto the canvas so it’s ready to hang as-is. It’s all part of the art!
